A little education, Tea and Digestion.
Habitual tea drinkers benefit from the effects on the digestive process. Improved digestion, maintaining a healthy weight, decreased risk of ulcers, and much more!

The digestive system
The digestive system starts working from the mouth. An enzyme called amylase contained in saliva begins the chemical breakdown of carbohydrates into simple sugars. The food is swollowed and moves to the stomach where powerful muscles churn the food, breaking it into smaller pieces, mixing it with gastric juices. The juices contain an enzyme that begins to digest proteins and hydrochloric acid. The food continues to move throught the gastrointestinal tract.
The small intestine absorbs the majority of nutrients. The food is also absorbed by enzymes from the pancreas and intestinal lining. Billions of cells line the small intestine and absorb the final products such as amino acids from protein, sugar from carbohydrates, vitamins, minerals and cholesterol. The remaining left over waste products are moved to the large intestine to be excreted from the body.

Green Tea Helps Digestion
While green tea moves through the digestive process, it has specific positive effects. Research has proven that polyphenols are absorbed from the intestinal tract and make their way through out the body. The polyphenols affect carbohydrate metabolism in many ways. They inhibit the function of amylase, this diminishes the absorbtion of glucose derived from complex carbohydrates. Polyphenols also inhibit the enzymes sucrase and glucosidase, which are necessary for carbohydrate digestion in the small intestine. As a result of some of these, the absorbtion of carbohydrates is reduced and blood glucose levels are lower. This can benefit diabetes and obesity.
Green tea has lots of vitamins. vitamin C, B2, D, K and carotenoids. Minerals are also found in Green tea, calcium, magnesium, manganese, iron, copper, zinc, chromium, selenium, sodium, phosphorus, and potassium. Green tea is also a great source of flouride.

Green tea protects the digestional tract from carcinogens that could harm the stomach, intestine, or colon. Mutagens are among the class of harmful carcinogens. They are potentially harmful heterocyclic amines that are formed during the cooking process, especially frying of meats and fish. They enter the digestive tract and are believed to be a major contributor to cancer. Researchers in Vancouver, British Columbia Cancer Research Center investigated the effects of green tea on nitrosamination, a cancer-promoting process. They reported that "the simultaneous intake of teas with food products that are being nitrosated within the stomach of human subjects should exert a protective, beneficial effect.
Finally, Green tea promotes a healthy digestive tract by altering the intestinal environment to make it favorable to the growth of friendly bacteria and less favorable to the growth of unfriendly bacterias.
